Finalist in the 4th Annual Tom Tom City Art Bus Competition
For the fourth year, the Tom Tom Festival held a competition in 2018 to transform a city bus into a roving piece of art. Local artists were invited to submit designs for consideration, with the selected design chosen by a combination of public voting and juried selection.
My design began a few days after August 12 2017, when I was walking through downtown Charlottesville and noticed a trampled paper crane in the middle of the street. With torn edges and a boot print clearly visible on the center of the crane, it seemed like an apt metaphor for how I was feeling about my city on that day.
When the call for designs went out shortly afterward, I thought back to the paper crane and wanted to send a message of hope and peace throughout the city.
Sketched and layout in Procreate, with final design completed in Adobe Illustrator.
