Town Hall with (or without) Congressman Tom Garrett
In response to Congressman Tom Garrett's original reluctance to hold an in-person town hall event during the February congressional recess, several community organizations held their own town hall and invited the congressman to attend. Held in the Martin Luther King Jr. auditorium, over 1,200 people attended and asked questions to the absent Rep. Garrett on the topics of health care, immigration, education, and more.
The event was moderated by two refugee Charlottesville High school students Kibiriti Majuto and Saad Khaleefa. They shared Rep. Garrett's stance on key issues, and then opened the floor to questions from the audience. The event was recorded and a copy will be delivered to Rep. Garrett's office.
